Sign in, set a password, and add your own login
How to make sure you can always sign back in to Ordinary after installing from the Shopify App Store — set a password, use the "finish setting up" email, or give the day-to-day user their own login.
Sign in, set a password, and add your own login
When you install Ordinary from the Shopify App Store, we create your Ordinary account automatically from your store’s contact email and sign you straight in — there’s no separate sign-up form to fill out. This guide explains how to make sure you (or whoever runs Ordinary day to day) can always get back in.
Set a password so you can always sign back in
Because your account was created during install, it doesn’t have a password yet. On the Getting Started page you’ll see a Secure your account card — set a password there.
Once a password is set, you can always sign back in at app.tryordinary.com with your store’s email and that password. This step is optional and can be done any time, but we recommend doing it right away so you’re never locked out.
Tip: if the password you choose is rejected, it’s usually because it’s too short (use at least 8 characters) or has appeared in a known data breach. Choose a different one.
”Finish setting up Ordinary” email
If you (or the store owner) get signed out before setting a password — for example, the person who installed the app wasn’t the store owner — we send a “Finish setting up Ordinary” email to your store’s contact address. It contains a one-time link, valid for 14 days, that signs you in and takes you straight to the set-a-password step.
If you can’t find it, check spam, and make sure you’re looking in the inbox for the email address listed as your store’s contact in Shopify.
Someone else installed Ordinary for you?
It’s common for one person to install the app and someone else to
actually use it day to day. If the install signed in someone else’s
email (for example a shared support@ inbox), you can give the real
user their own login.
On Getting Started, use the Add your own login card: enter the email address that should have access and send the invite. They’ll get their own login with admin access to your organization.
If you enter the same email you’re already signed in as, there’s nothing to invite — just set a password on that account using the Secure your account card above.
To manage everyone on your team (add more people, change roles, remove access), see Invite your team.
Frequently asked
I closed the tab right after installing and now I can’t get back in. Look for the “Finish setting up Ordinary” email in your store’s contact inbox and use the link to get back in, then set a password.
Do I have to set a password? No — it’s optional and never blocks you from using Ordinary. But without one, getting back in later depends on the email link, so setting a password is the safest option.
Can I change my email? Your account is tied to the email it was created with. To move access to a different address, invite that address with the Add your own login card (or from Settings → Team) and use it going forward.
